The first position chosen by King John I and Constable Nuno Álvares Pereira to face the Castilian army was located near the site where the Monastery of Batalha would later be built. However, the terrain proved vulnerable, leading the Portuguese army to withdraw to the Field of São Jorge, where the decisive battle took place.
Today, from the Haven, you can see the administrative building that marks this 1st historic position.
